SUMMARY:Finding Off-Season Claus Work - Zoom Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Educational Zoom Program\nFinding Off-Season Claus Work\nThursday\, April 3\, 2025 (7:00 – 9:00 pm)\n \nWhile we Christmas performers are certainly busy during the season\, for the other 10 months our work opportunities are few and far between. But they are out there if we learn where and how to seek them out. \nChristmas in July events are not uncommon\, especially at campgrounds\, summer camps\, and sport venues. In recent years\, retail businesses have started using the “holidays” for sales and customer promotions. Our challenge is to make Claus in demand all the other days of the year. \nThis workshop will look at the kinds of appearances that are common for LEON/Christmas in July and other summer gigs. However\, we will be taking a broader look at where we can create other activities and services during the off-season. Hopefully\, folks will go away with a variety of options to offer this summer. \nA panel of NESS members will share their experiences with off-season work. Santa Dan Greenleaf will facilitate the session. \nHow to find\, market\, book\, and manage off-season appearances will be covered. We will also discuss outfits\, event activities\, summer storytelling\, and other skills. Practical advice useful for the regular season on reaching prospects\, marketing\, booking agreements\, negotiating\, getting paid\, and retaining clients will be offered. \nWhile the session has off-season work as its focus\, the information\, strategies\, and resources shared will also be valuable for our regular in-season activities. \nThe Zoom session is open free to all. Please RSVP on the NESS Website to reserve your spot.

SUMMARY:Coping with the End of the Christmas Season - Zoom
DESCRIPTION:For the last two months\, it’s been go-go-go; Ho Ho Ho. We’ve been the center of attention. The subject of adoring eyes. The source of good cheer\, moving memories\, unbounded wonder\, and unquestioning belief. Santa & Mrs. Claus bask in the love\, excitement\, joy\, and pleasure that comes with the job. Then Christmas comes and all that abruptly ends. \nThe end of the Christmas season can bring on many emotions: relief\, joy\, satisfaction\, exhaustion\, sadness\, anxiety\, illness\, and even depression. Learning how to deal with them make the abrupt end a softer landing. \nMarriage & Family Counselor Dave Wayman will lead a discussion on the impact of the season’s end and how to recognize and cope with various tiggers\, emotions and situations that can occur. Strategies for reducing the negative emotions and reactions will be discussed. \nThere will be an open discussion on how you respond to the end of the season and actions that help you get through. \nMr. Wyman\, with a private practice in Salem\, NH\, has many years experience doing what he loves: helping folks. \nThe presentation will begin at 7:00 pm although the Zoom will be open at 6:30 pm for those who just want to socialize before the presentation. \nThe event is open free to all holiday performers but registration is required here: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/pvIAfdcnTbudH90SLCUZOw \nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

SUMMARY:Understanding Autism for the Claus Community - Zoom
DESCRIPTION:The Autism Project of Johnston\, RI\, has offered to provide training for our group on Autism. The program will explain autism and neurodiversity. In addition\, it will focus on how we\, as Santa\, Mrs. Claus and elves\, can interact with those with autism to provide a comfortable and enjoyable visit for all. \nThis training will provide participants with up-to-date information on the neurodevelopmental characteristics of autism. This workshop is appropriate for those who are new to autism\, as well as for those with decades of experience. Topics are broken down into the following categories: diagnostic criteria\, coexisting medical conditions\, social communication\, sensory processing\, and cognition. Participants will leave this workshop with a deeper understanding of the unique influence of neurodevelopment on each autistic individual. This training celebrates autistic people while discussing the unique characteristics that require a supportive and empathetic environment. \nThe Zoom training will be held Thursday\, November 14. The presentation runs from 7:00 – 8:30 pm with time for question until 9:00 pm. \nThe event is only open to Santa\, Mrs. Claus and other Christmas performers. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. The meeting link will be provided in the confirmation email as well. \nJoin Zoom Meeting \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/84038277607 \nMeeting ID: 840 3827 7607 \nThe presentation will be recorded and available to NESS members. \nFrom its website: The Autism Project is a unique collaboration of parents\, professionals and community members that has existed since 1997.
