Christmas Books Old & New – NESS Program & Meeting
September 21 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
$10.00 – $40.00Christmas books are an established tradition of the holiday season. While always great gifts, books provide the foundation for legends, stories, traditions, and memories of Christmas for families around the world.
In the morning session, we will tour the Providence Athenaeum Rare Book Room including a first edition of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. We will also have time to explore other holiday volumes in the library’s collection.
For lunch we will gather at a nearby restaurant. Following the meal, we will hold a brief New England Santa Society meeting to bring folks up to date on the many things that are happening and for questions.
The afternoon session will focus on some newer holiday books. However, there is a special surprise. The books have all been written by our own New England Santa Society members. In addition to sharing all the stories, those authors in attendance will share their inspiration, process, and reflections. Some books will be available for sale.
Attendees can attend the whole day or just the session of interest. Advance registration is required.
